Medical Marijuana & How to Grow It

With marijuana (cannabis) is close to being de-criminalized and with proven medical benefits (relieves symptoms of chemotherapy, epilepsy treatment, glaucoma treatment, reduce effects of schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis and effective for metastasizing breast cancer cells with low toxicity), growing marijuana is soon to become a personal and private option. Medical marijuana is known as Marinol, dronbinol, cesamet and nabilone.

Instructions to grow marijuana are simple and straightforward. The secret is to buy seeds from the right growers.

1. Preparation. Allocate 1 cubic foot of good nurturing soil (indoor vegetable growing) for each plant. Fertilizer is important. Use 15% Nitrogen, 15% Phosphorus, 15% Potassium. Plants need fresh air, so locating pots in a room with ventilation is important. Also at least 8 hours of light is needed. Some growers say that 16 hours of light is best. Light could be sunlight or fluorescent. An option to planting in a pot is to grow marijuana using hydroponics.

2. When using a planting pot, make sure to provide drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

3. Seeds. Best seeds for the novice indoor grower (soil or hydroponic) are indica strains or indica/sativa mix, or with experience, sativa strain. Use seeds or clones. Clones can be placed directly in the planting pot. Seeds will first need to be germinated.

Seed sources include seedbanks. Look for seedbanks that ship from Canada. Popular seeds include: white widow (indica/sativa mix), big bud (indica/sativa mix), bubblegum (indica/sativa mix), hollands hope (indica), ice (good for hydroponic), northern lights, purple power, afghan, aurora (indica) and PPP (sativa).

Seed cost. Depends on source, however for reference purposes, 10 white widow seeds can cost $50-$60; 10 big bud seeds $30-$40; 10 Holland's hope $30; 10 Ice $40. A google search on the type of seed you want will generate seed suppliers.
